My technical goal was to create these illusions in camera using nothing more than light and dark in order to achieve our ultimate artistic goals, which evolved as we progressed.
In Natasha's own words:
"The initial goal was to contrast the aesthetic of hair and baldness in various emotional states with the hope of a study into how hair affected the perception of the female visage.
We soon saw that the range of emotions photographed, from the grandest theatrical pose to the most delicate and subtle smirk, had their own contrast that was telling of how the spectator views emotion displayed.
The whole series eventually became a look into and the different intricacies of the female face taken by feeling, the extremes of emotion, and what a small aesthetic change can make when viewing the ever malleable spectrum of femininity."
Photographed in my studio with a Sony A900 DSLR and studio lights. The lens is a Minolta rectilinear 20mm f2.8.
